Inverted World Era, Chapter 2 Preface

The giant serpent Skybinder wreaked unprecedented destruction upon
the world when it descended from beyond the heavens.
Even worse were the invaders who accompanied it from the inverted world,
that upside-down continent that abruptly appeared in the sky above.

In response to this crisis, the central imperial government decided to
summon the Twelve Lightguider Zodiac spirits.
In addition, they commissioned a survey of the new,
unknown territory overhead.

Information acquired from those survey team members who miraculously
penetrated the inverted world ran counter to government expectations.
Three separate influential powers were all vying for control of that land.
In addition, there was Skybinder's army to contend with,
and all four parties had their own expectations for that giant serpent.

The central government was confronted with several decisions.
Were the inverted world's inhabitants ultimately friend or foe?
Skybinder's true threat encompassed the existence of their world itself.

Firsthand accounts from this era which describe the inverted world are quite sparse.
Unfurl your imaginations and let us soar through the historical narrative,
piecing together facts from among those myths and folktales that remain.

The Inverted World

Sovereignty: Unclear
A large landmass, equivalent in size to
any three of the realms combined

The following information had been gathered from reports made by the survey team.
A ruler who is given the title of Shogun governs the inverted world,
but that position was currently vacant.
Three powers were apparently fighting over the Shogun's seat:
the Red Leaves, the White Shadows, and the Yellow Sea.

Spirits unaffiliated with any of those three powers comprised Skybinder's army,
and there was a distinct possibility those spirits were desperate to
find a new home away from the inverted world.

While that last possibility was a compelling theory,
it would later be established that Skybinder's army had an entirely different objective.

All we can do now is wait for reports to come back from the survey team.

Skybinder

Sovereignty: Skybinder's Army
Heaven's Peak, one of the tallest pinnacles in
the Realm of Flame

In an effort to enlarge their domain,
Skybinder's army began attacking other regions within the Realm of Flame.

They encountered resistance led by the Emperor Beasts and were eventually
defeated with a helping hand from the Twelve Lightguider Zodiac spirits.

Despite failing to expand their influence, Skybinder and its army remained strong,
and within six months of arriving, Heaven's Peak was entirely under their control.

It was apparent they had steady military replenishment coming from the inverted world.
Thus, the imperial government was left struggling to calculate
how much force would be necessary to repatriate their land.

The Imperial Government

Sovereignty: The Empire
The Floating City

The current imperial government faced three major challenges:

Grasping the full significance of the inverted world's presence.
Recovering from the destruction caused by Skybinder.
Containing Skybinder's army.
Efforts to resolve all three challenges were going favorably.
Stockpiling sufficient forces for a counteroffensive would be the final key.

Or so they believed, until a disturbing report from
Libra of the Twelve Lightguider Zodiacs made it clear...
the empire had precious little time remaining if they hoped to eliminate Skybinder.
